projects: the new great table venture, part 2

A table update is here, but the list below has not changed (although the red interlace is almost finished).  In the last picture you can see how the black will start to fill in the white spaces.  After completing the red and filling in the black around the interlace, I will go back over the interlace again in red to make sure that none of the gesso/pencil lines can peek through the acrylic.

The to-do list is as follows:

[x] Strip off old tile
[x] Sand down old glue
[x] Apply multiple coats of acrylic gesso to top and bottom of table surface
[x] Paint bottom and sides of table surface in black acrylic
[x] Sketch grid lines for border
[  ] Complete interlace knot on border in red acrylic
[  ] Plan central knot and tengwar text
[  ] Sketch central knot and tengwar
[  ] Complete central knot and tengwar in red acrylic
[  ] Fill in negative spaces with black (clean up)
[  ] Fill in rest of table with black
[  ] Spot check
[  ] Apply gold acrylic details
[  ] Apply seal/varnish of some sort (TBD) to both sides of table surface.

Progress Pictures - These represent where I am this week.  I have not been spending a great deal of time on it, but it has been a nice way to unwind at the end of the day while listening to Let's Plays.  I am still coming up with ideas for the central part of the table, but an idea has begun to cement itself and will probably translate itself onto paper come this weekend.  As a side note, I am aware that the "hearts" in the interlace are rather irregular looking, but that is what happens when one (for the most part) freehands-it well after midnight.  While I will try to keep the lines a relatively similar thickness, I am not going to be too worried about the differences in shape.  This after all is a fun project, and not an exercise in precision.
